Bali huts faqs - Honest answers from a Adelaide store

We've been selling and installing Bali huts in South Australia for over 15years. Below are the questions we get asked most, answered straight — including the answers that cost us sales. If you'd rather ask in person, we're atChristies Beach seven days a week.

COST AND SIZING

How much does a Bali hut cost in Adelaide? Our Bali huts start at $695 for a 2.5x2.5m roof span - ground size 1.5 x 1.5(it is a tiny hut not so practical). A 3x3 starts at $1,045, a 3.5m at $1,395, a 3x4 at $1,395, a 4x4 at $1,695 and a 5x5 at $2,445. Solid coconut wood huts start at $4,995.

Delivery and assembly are quoted separately at competitive rates.

What size Bali hut do I need?

Measure your space properly before you order. There are two different measurements that matter, and people usually only think about one of them.

Step 1 — Check the roof area
The roof span is the widest part of the hut, so check for anything overhead that could get in the way: tree branches, a roof awning, gutters, eaves, or
powerlines. Add an extra 20-30cm to whatever size you're buying. These huts are handmade, so the roof span can vary slightly from the stated size.

This matters more on rectangular huts. The span won't be identical on all sides — it tends to run a little short on the long side and a little over on
the short side.

Step 2 — Check the ground area
Once you know the roof fits, measure where the legs will actually sit. The ground size is smaller than the roof span. On a 4x4 meter roof span hut,
the ground size is approximately 3x3 metre. Important: that ground measurement is taken from the middle of the poles, not from the inside edges. So on a 3x3 metre ground size, the clear space inside the poles works out at roughly 2.7 to 2.8 metres, depending on how thick the poles are.

This is crucial if you're planning to put a spa underneath. Measure your spa and compare it against the inside-the-poles figure, not the ground size and definitely not the roof span.

Will it survive Adelaide storms?

Never underestimate mother nature. If it wants to, nothing stands in its way. What we can do is build it as well as it can be built and keep improving the design wherever we can. A properly built hut handles normal conditions well, and the critical factor is how the roof is secured. When we install a hut, we bolt the roof to the structure. That's a substantially stronger connection in high wind. We don't use bamboo sticks to hold the roof on, which is still common practice with other retailers in South Australia. The problem is you can't tell from a photo, and you can't tell by looking at a finished hut either. But there is a way to check. How to check whether a roof is bolted Stand at one corner of the hut and try to lift that corner of the roof. If the roof lifts on its own without the whole hut lifting with it, it isn't bolted on. Please be careful — thatched roofs are heavy. Mind your back, and don't attempt it alone. Better still, ask the seller to do it for you. If they're confident in their build, they won't hesitate.

How to protect thatching?

Thatching is the weakest part of your hut, It is ok in normal conditions however we need to protect it from the strong winds and storms, so to protect it we strongly recommend throwing a bird netting over it and secure with the zip ties, use black colour bird netting as it blends in better, and you can hardly notice it. Please talk to us we can help you with that too when we install your hut.

Will the bamboo split or crack?

Yes, it likely will. Bamboo is a natural material and in South Australia's dry climate it can split or crack on poles, side rails and other bamboo parts.
This doesn't affect the structural strength of the hut, but it does change the look. If you want a material that stays perfectly smooth, a bamboo Bali
hut isn't the right product for you.

How do I look after my Bali hut?


When the bamboo fades after two to three years of sun exposure, refresh it with linseed oil thinned with turpentine, brushed onto the

bamboo structure. 

 

Can I put a Bali hut over a spa or pool?
Yes, this is one of the most popular uses. Note that pool areas carry their own council and fencing rules, so check those alongside any

hut approval.

Can I assemble it myself?
Some customers do. Talk to us first so you understand what's involved and what site preparation you'll need before delivery day.

Do you price match?
Yes. Find a lower written quote on the same Bali hut from another Adelaide store and we'll beat it. We buy directly from a Bali factory

rather than through an importer, which is why our prices start where they do.

Can I see one assembled before I buy?
Yes — come to the store. Photos hide a lot, and we'd rather you saw the build quality in person.

How do I pay?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Afterpay and Zippay in store.
